Geographical description

Located in Santiago, the capital of Chile, Clínica Santa María is placed in a neighborhood named Providencia, where traditional residential homes and modern office buildings coexist. Close to all kinds of commerce, hotels, cultural areas, restaurants and tourist icons like San Cristobal hill, the Clinic outstands for its good access and proximity from all parts of the city.

History

Until the beginning of the XX century, only public hospitals took care of Chileans health issues. At that time a group of professionals became aware of health evolution in developed countries, so they detected the need to create the first Private Health Institution of the country.
On October 16, 1939 Clínica Santa María was inaugurated with the presence the President of the Republic, Mr. Pedro Aguirre Cerda, who together with other important people rated the clinic as "a palace of medicine".

The successful acceptance of the Clinic in the Chilean society resulted in a high demand for attention; this forced the clinic to expand its physical plant in 1954. The number of pavilions was increased and the adjacent building, the chapel, and the auditorium were inaugurated.
On October 16, 1966 the first Private Coronary Unit of the country was inaugurated with the top advances in science and technology of the time. This unit was in charge of a qualified medical team to deal with the needs of patients.
In 1983 Clínica Santa María was bought by the Bank Pension Fund "Caja Bancaria de Pensiones", owned by the private health insurance company "Isapre Banmedica", beginning a remodeling and growing process.
In 1988 in the context of popular capitalism the sale of shares of the Fund Bank is done to the general public, doctors, and other professionals and employees, becoming a new society, Banmédica S.A. owner of Isapre Banmédica, Clínica Santa María, Davila Clinic and the old medical service of the Bank Fund.
Clearly the year 2001 is a milestone in the history of Clínica Santa María. The end of a long term desired project is made true: the inauguration of a building that allows the clinic to position like one of the most modern private health centers of the country. With emphasis in medical excellence that the clinic provides to all patients and the access to the most advanced worldwide technology.

The strong investment allowed the clinic to duplicate its capacity and size, reaching more than 37,700 m2, 200 beds, 75 medical offices, 500 parking spaces, 4 underground levels and eight stories high building. All this combined with a design and architecture that responds to the global trends of hospitals. From its very beginning the clinic has had the nature of an open institution, to the service of general public and in service of all the doctors that want to perform the attention and care of their patients in the clinic, striving for excellence, personalized attention and according to the scientific and technological advanced.
On September 2006, the construction of the third building of Clínica Santa María started. The project improved the quality of care through a service that includes the highest standards in health, technology and hotel service. The new construction, withaccessfrom Av. Bellavista Street, begun its operation in March 2009 and has five underground levels and eight levels above ground, plus a heliport, all distributed in more than 45,000 square meters.

Infrastructure

Constantly growing and adapting to the patients' needs, its modern infrastructure has more than 350 beds, more than 142 medical offices spread in 10 medical centers, 53 boxes of emergency care, 10 observation rooms, 19 surgical wards and 2 care delivery rooms, and more than 1,145 parking spaces, forming a big health complex of 85,000 square meters. We also have modern intensive care units, for children and adults, a huge laboratory, a gym with specialized kinesiology equipmentand huge spaces to receive thousands of patients circulating daily in the institution.

Technology

Clínica Santa María remains at the Forefront in diagnostic technology available in the country. It has top equipment like 64-slice Scanner, the Nuclear Resonator 3,0 Tesla- first of its kind in Chile-,the three-dimensional Rotational Angiographic, the Dual Linear Accelerator with Multi Blades and Portal Imagethatallows for intensity modulated radiotherapy for cancer treatment.
During this last year theAxionArtis A. has incorporated for digital angiography and general angiocardiography and general angiography and theNeuronavigator S7 System, that allows to obtain 3D images in real time of the place that is beingintervening, providing greater patient safety. Moreover, soon theDa Vinci Swill arrive, the best robotic technology in the world. This equipment will be the most modern in Chile and for its use; it will be installed in a specially conditioned pavilion.
